There is much to love at Orlando Children’s Church. The kids brighten our week, the volunteers remind us what it is to be the hands and feet of Christ, and the McGriddles are pretty good, too. But there’s something bigger that happens every Saturday morning.
Kids come from all over Central Florida, and so do the volunteers. We represent just about every neighborhood and denomination, but on Saturday mornings we experience the unity Christ intended for his church in a way that isn’t found in many places. With willing hearts, we watch God work.
Thank you for being one of those willing hearts! Thank you for helping us reflect the love of Jesus!
REAL LIFE HELP
On the middle and high school side of OCC, the students and leaders started the year by having some heartfelt conversations about what we want to see happen in 2019. The discussions have been less about resolutions and more about who we are — as a church, as a family, and as a bunch of people trying to figure out how to live and love like Jesus even when it feels like everything is falling apart.
In addition to the opportunity to speak up during the service, the teenagers were able to write down their ideas and hand them in. The responses ranged from funny to heartbreaking to deeply hopeful. The most common theme was the desire for real life help.
How do I pay attention during church when everything is distracting? What do I do with feelings of grief that just won’t go away? How can I make good choices… I keep making bad ones. What can I do to stay on track and make it to college?
For the past two years, the teenagers have focused on John 10:10: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Now, we’re going to take some practical steps to help one another experience life to the full. Together, we can learn and grow and heal. Together, we can begin to experience God’s kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. Stay tuned…we’re excited about what’s ahead.
